What a welcomed surprise to see my twitter feed littered with rumors about Vinny Mac, a man the challenged God to a match, who has the grapefruits of all the grapefruits looking to get back into the business of giving the audience another football league. As soon as I saw it my heart stopped over the idea that the XFL may rise like a Phoenix from the ashes only to instantly think that if the XFL was any kind of dead rising entity it be one of those spastic zombies from World War Z who just run around real quickly into walls. Here’s how events went last night when this news first got out.
Now I don’t know who this not so anonymous gothamite is but bless his heart for sharing the news that the Vinny Mac may be trying to resurrect the XFL.
Then this writer from Deadspin issued a follow up
So, apparently Vince is going rogue and like an RKO has started his own entertainment company called Alpha Entertainment out of nowhere. Exactly what this Alpha Entertainment company is or what it will do is really anyone’s guess but bringing back the XFL is certainly something that can come out of it. It’s also very telling that WWE is already saying that thy have nothing to do with this, that this is all Vince going out and doing everything on his own without any support from WWE.
And then Brad Shepard tweeted this
No idea where this man is getting his information but damn I hope that is credible because I̶ the world needs the XFL back.
Now before we get ahead of ourselves and start dusting off our He Hate Me Jerseys, understand that this is Vince McMahon we’re talking about. This entertainment company can easily turn into nothing. In fact, the smart money is on that happening in my opinion. But the fact that Vince is such a loose cannon and the absolute pure fact that he desperately wants to take another shot at competing with the NFL has me intrigued. If you watched the 30 for 30 This Is The XFL, at the end of it Vince was sitting with Dick Ebersol and this conversation took place
Do you ever have any thoughts about trying again?” Ebersol asked McMahon, per Pro Football Talk’s transcription.
“Yes I do,” McMahon replies. “I don’t know what it would be. I don’t know if it’s going to be another XFL or what it may be or how different I would make it. It seems like in some way it would tie in either with the NFL itself or the owners.
Clearly Vince wants to take another shot of making it big with his own football league. Not sure it will work out but I want to see him try. The XFL was wild and I and others want to see the wildness again especially to watch them try and get away with the stuff they did back in 2001 in today’s climate. I think Vince can adjust. Just watch any WWE programming today. The XFL had some innovative concepts that the NFL use today such as mics on the field and the skycam camera that has been around for a bit and now is being used to show entire games on Thursdays. Now, some of their other ideas like the opening scramble to get to decide who gets the ball that injured nearly half the league and having WWE type story lines with the announcers and cheerleaders might not fly, but another football league for professionals is something I’d be in too. Remember, without the XFL we never would of got Tommy Maddux and….. Tommy Maddux.
PS- The Warlord has to be the CEO of Alpha Entertainment right? No way it can be anyone else
