If you follow this blog, and I know you d̶e̶f̶i̶n̶i̶t̶e̶l̶y̶ d̶o̶n̶’̶t̶ definitely do, you are well aware that I wrote a blog weeks go about how there was action being made Vincent Kennedy McMahon about how he created an entertainment company called Alpha Entertainment out of absolute no where, that had nothing to do with the WWE, with money seemingly straight out of his own pocket. Well mark January 25th as the day that the once defunct XFL rose up like the Undertaker because it’s back baby!!!!!!!
How can this miss? I mean it’s football, it’s McMahon and it’s going to be a lot of Don Trump the commander in chief saying that the XFL is the only league that any self respecting American should pay attention to because it’s required that everyone in the league stand for the national anthem. That’s actually what McMahon said today at a press conference. Here’s some of the things he said
“People don’t want social and political issues coming into play when they are trying to be entertained,” McMahon said. “We want someone who wants to take a knee to do their version of that on their personal time.”
“I can say, ‘Here are the rules, and as long as you are playing football in the stadium for us, you follow these rules.'”
“We are evaluating a player based on many things, including the quality of human being they are,” McMahon said. If you have any sort of criminal record or commit a crime you aren’t playing in this league.”
Basically if you want to say that the XFL is the league for the ideology of republicans, I won’t get in the way of you thinking that. Certainly has that feel to it but this isn’t about politics like McMahon said so I’ll agree to that until I actually see how the game is presented. If you want to say that the XFL is the league for the person who enjoys the nastiest of train wrecks, I also won’t get in the way of you thinking that. That seems where this all will end up anyways. I’d love to say that the XFL will deliver the type of football fans want once the NFL ends in the beginning of February but I just don’t see where the quality of football is going to come from. I really don’t think anyone is going to want to watch and see a team from Lexington QBed by the backup QB at Oregon that never got a shot or see a running back that spent 2 years in the NFL as a once and a while 3rd down back pounding the rock. If I’m Vince, I throw everything he has at Bryce Love after next year to see if he would play there rather than go to the NFL. That’s really what he should be doing;offering 30 million dollar contracts to top rookies. Not even sure that’ll get people to care. I really don’t believe anyone will ever seriously say “hey, lets go to that XFL’s teams tailgate or hey guys wanna have an XFL draft?” I just see folks mocking the crap out of it and waiting for Vince to get involved. even though he says he won’t be anywhere on screen, and start sending half naked women to the field to attract eyes when the ratings aren’t there. Seems like where this is headed. Maybe I’ll be wrong and Vince will have it all figured out, but I really really really really doubt it.
PS- All I thought about when I saw that XFL hype video was this
