Catholic Sun VATICAN CITY (CNS) — The devil is “a loser,” but he still tricks people into giving him power, Pope Francis said. The devil “seduces us; he knows how to appeal to our vanity and curiosity and we buy it all,” the pope said May 8 during his homily at Mass in the chapel of the Domus Sanctae Marthae where he lives. The day’s Gospel passage from St. John ends with Jesus telling His disciples “the ruler of this world has been condemned.” The phrase refers to the devil, Pope Francis said. With the resurrection of Jesus, the devil has been defeated, but he still pretends to have power and still tries to influence people. “He has this ability to seduce,” the pope said. “That makes it hard to understand that he is a loser because he presents himself with great power, promises you many things, brings you gifts — beautiful, all wrapped up,” he said. “He knows how to seduce us with the package without letting us see what’s inside. He knows how to present his proposals to appeal to our vanity, our curiosity.” Unfortunately, he said, too often “we like being seduced.” The devil is “the great liar, the father of lies,” the pope said, “and we fools believe him.”
Love that pope is out there throwing caution to the wind and laughing in the face of the prince of darkness, not Ozzy, and calling him a big ole loser. This is a guy who’s not afraid of dancing with the devil in the pale moonlight. This is a man who is in command of all of his powers and wants the world to know that in case you had any doubts about Lucifer that he is in fact a loser. The quote does have a message in it as you’d imagine anything said from the pope would.

Basically, the devil is a loser because he does and wants you to do bad things but doing bad things are often really fun to do so have the will power to turn your back on doing fun things because they might be bad. He’s also right that the devil knows how to appeal to our vanity and curiosity because whenever I ever engage in anything I shouldn’t be doing I always say “there’s the devil again, trying to get me to do some stuff I really don’t wanna do.” Amazing that this doesn’t work as a LEGAL defense in courtrooms.
Something about the word loser that always makes me laugh. Like whenever Trump calls someone a loser, something that happens often I know, I laugh really dang hard. I just feel that calling someone a loser is just something that is really hard to come back from. Someone calling you a loser is basically one person telling another that they own them and everything you are, what you do is stupid and that you make terrible choices. It’s one of those words when it gets said to you that you question yourself in all ways, going over your entire being making sure that you aren’t doing anything stupid.
